HyComp’s Roll Polishing System is a proprietary technology developed to improve strip quality and increase mill production through the elimination of roll pickup and oxidation. This technology is a real-time, in-line articulating system that continuously cleans the roll surface during mill production. The technology has been successfully utilized worldwide in the processing of high quality strip used in the manufacture of products such as automobiles, appliances, office furniture, and beverage cans. The efficiency of the HyComp System begins with the polishing block. The unique combination of shape and construction produces a polishing action that requires only minimal pressure for operation. The material make up for the blocks is custom blended for each application to meet its particular requirements. The blocks are connected to the main polishing assembly with either a torsion or leaf spring to provide flexibility for roll contour and vibration.
The polisher continuously cleans the full working length of the roll during normal mill operation. When
activated by the controller, pneumatics cylinders move the polishing assembly into contact with the roll face and apply the polishing pressure required. A second cylinder then reciprocates the assembly, traveling
parallel to the roll, creating the polishing motion. |

These polishers are designed and manufactured to meet the harsh demands of the HSM. Each polisher is constructed of heavy duty carbon steel and equipped with mill duty cylinders. The polishing media utilizes HyComp's toughest polishing block the "Green Monster" This polishing block can remove toothpick size stickers in under two minutes, drastically improving strip quality. One of the biggest advantages is the polisher's ability to increase roll life by "Equalizing the wear across the roll". Therefore hot strip mills can now run the pinch rolls longer between change outs, resulting in increased production rates. |

Most systems are used to polish tower rolls, deflector rolls, and bridle rolls, but can be installed on any roll that contacts the strip.
Tower rolls are often an area for significant zinc pick up due to their location in the hot dip process. HyComp Polishing Systems are designed featuring special high temperature polishing blocks and components to meet the challenges of the environment while cleaning the roll continuously, eliminating dents and scratches on the coated strip. |

As the demand for high strip surface quality increases so does the need to maintain clean, highly-polished rolls that contact the strip. Traditional cleaning devices such as brushes, doctor blades, and abrasive papers become ineffective when considering the dual goal of assuring quality while maximizing mill up time. HyComp Roll Polishing Systems can be installed onto work rolls, back up rolls, and deflector rolls - all running continuously to maintain a clean, debris free roll surface. Through effective polishing, strip quality is assured while increasing time between roll changes.
The flexibility of the system can accommodate both profiled and straight rolls. Additionally, HyComp can incorporate a vacuum system to remove polished debris away from the area of the roll surface.
